Plot
a) Exposition
:
Once a long time ago there was a man who farmed his land with his
donkey. The donkey plowed the fields,
pulled the reaper, helped drag stones
from the field to make the wall arround the farm, and hauled the fruits of his
labor to market. But, as time would have it and, as always, times wins in the end, the donkey
began to grow old and couldn’t work around the farm any more. The farmer purchased a new animal and treated
his old friend as an honored guest. He slept late in his stall, ate the best
grain, and had the run of the farm like a pet. He would often get into the
vegetable patch, angering the farmer’s wife, or get tangled in the laundry that
hung outside on the line across the barnyard, causing her to scream.
b) Rising
Action :
One day the donkey was happily eating some flowers under the window
of the kitchen when he heard the farmer and his wife talking. They were talking
about him that old donkey is good for nothing. All he does is sleep and eat,
eat and sleep. This is a farm and an animal has to be useful. A donkey should
be working and pulling his weight on a
farm. The farmer replied that donkey worked side by side with me for many years
and he deserves a rest. He’s as much a friend as any man i know.
The old donkey thought to him self that i’ve worked hard and now i’m off to the glue
factory. Oh, no. I’m off to see the world. I’m leaving this farm. with tears in his eyes the old donkey raised
the latch on the gate and walked out into the country lane that ran beside the
farm. Now, he had heard of a place called Bremen Town from the horse of a
traveling salesman. The horse told him that the people of that town liked music
so much that all you had to do was stand and sing on the corner of any street
and people would throw golden coins at your feet. The donkey thought to himself
that Bremen Town sounded like paradise. The
donkey walked away, in the journey he met the goat that
too old to be of any use, The black
dog that too old to hunt, The cat that he was not as
fast as he used
to be and I don’t catch mice like I used to, The rooster that too old and sometimes i sleep
late. They became a quintet and amaze
the people of Bremen Town with our harmonies.
c) Climax :
And so the five new friends walked down the road and soon came to
the edge of the forest. Now, the forest was dark and deep and very frightening
to these five farm animals. As they made their way among the tall trees they
walked closer and closer to each other. The night sounds seemed louder in the
forest than they did on the farm.
they met the cabin and decided to go there and
singing, but cat got the idea to goat climbe on
donkey’s back and dog and goat’s back. And cat get on dog’s back and rooster stands on
donkey’s head, they could all get through the door at once.“ Everyone agreed it was a
great idea and soon they were all in place for the performance. Donkey quietly
walked onto the porch and suddenly kicked the door open. All the animals
started singing at the same time.
The robbers stood up stared at the sight in the doorway, and headed
for the back door, screaming, and off they ran, into the woods.
d) Falling
Action:
The friends waited quite a while for their audience to return, but
after what seemed like a long time they just decided to have supper without
them. After they had eaten most of the food on the table, they grew tired and
decided to spend the night in the cabin. Donkey slept on the front porch, goat
behind the door, dog under the table, just in case anything dropped on the
floor, cat slept near the fireplace so he could stay warm near the hot coals,
and rooster perched on top of the cabin, near the chimney.
The young thief crept back back to the cabin. By now it was dark,
not even a star to light his way. He quietly crept through the back door. He
walked past the sleeping dog and decided to blow on the embers in the fireplace
and rekindle the fire so he could see. When he did this, a spark hit the cat’s
tail. The coat woke up and scratched the robber’s face. He backed into the
table and the dog bit him in the leg as he staggered to the door, the goat put
his head down and rammed him with his borns. When he stumbled out the front
door, the donkey woke and kicked him through the air and half way across the
clearing. All the while the rooster kept crowing.
e) Denouement :
first a witch was sitting in the fireplace and she scratched me.
Then a troll came out from under the table and bit me. At the front door a
demon poked me with his horns. When i made it to the porch a giant kicked me
half way to the moon. All the while a wicked wizard kept screaming, “bring him
to me.” It was a nightmare. The thieves turned and run and didn’t stop until
dawn.
The
next day, the five friends decided that they liked the cabin, and since their
audience never returned, they made it their home. They never got to Bremen Town
but they were happy and started eachday with a song.
